Funds Still Available To Replace Cal-Shake Roofs Many roofers in the state have been asked to let the public know about funds that are still available because of a successful class action suit against New Cal-Shake roofing products. Homeowners may be eligible to receive a payment from the Court Approved $61.42 million settlement. 9000 people with a leaky Cal-Shake roof have filed claims to date.

If you own a home or other building on which a Cal-Shakes, manufactured by New Cal-Shake between February 1,1986 and March 31,1995, you may be eligible to receive a payment from the court approved $61.42 million New Cal-Shake Settlement.

“Many of the eligible homes are here in the Bay Area, particularly in Los Altos Hills, Portola Valley and Woodside,” said long-time roofer Fred Worrell, Worrell Roofing & Ventilation. “This is a good thing for homeowners, and we recommend that homeowners take advantage of this. There are still lots of homes with Cal-Shake roofs. I see them every day.”

Cal-Shake shakes are a fiber cement roofing product made to look like wood shakes. Originally thought to be a good fire retardant roof, the product experienced various problems as did the company. A class action suit was filed in 1996. The Court granted final approval of the Settlement with New Cal-Shake on November 15, 2005. The funds are available to help offset the cost of a new roof.

The Claims Filing process is ongoing for those property owners that have not yet filed a claim for compensation. Individuals or entities who own or owned property on which Cal-Shake was installed should visit CalShakeClassAction.com or call toll free 1-866-844-0600 to learn more and to obtain claim forms.
